In the digital film industry, the distribution and screening are the most important sectors, concerned the sales volume. Among the digital film markets, it is known that the DVD, VOD and Internet markets have been grown rapidly until recently in most developed countries.
Korea has the well-developed infrastructure of digital film market. The national wide PC network enables to increase the demand of digital film. In this study, the digital film markets such as DVD, VOD and internet market in Korea has been analyzed.
DVD market has been growing rapidly by substituting the VHS until recently, however, the over-competition among the small sized distributors has caused the instability of price and low margin of the distributors. VOD is estimated as the most growing digital market in the future, however, it is still less developed in Korea, which suggests the major film companies should concern more on VOD market. Internet market with VOD also has been growing in Korea. One of the problems is the illegal copy of the film. In the case of the foreign major film, it is difficult to transact in the Korean internet market, because of the problem of the property right.
When Korean film distributors concern more on these issues, it is expected the digital film market in Korea will be grown rapidly in the near future.
