다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Charles - Andre Julien was born in Caen in September 2, 1891. Three currents contributed to his formation: the protestant cultural heritage, the value of socialistic humanism received from Jean James, and the tradition of french University, with his esprit of independence. These diverse influences, sometimes contradictory, and the experiences of his life fostered a complex man who associated strict principle and proper flexibility. His indignation against the negation or the humiliation of others, which were the products of money, social domination, colonial power, and racial prejudice, was the essential resource of his engagement. His anti - colonial combat was, in principal, related to his will of restore the sense of his value and the value of the people neglected by those who he called the 'prepotents'. There were only few in France who understood settlement and struggled against colonial system consistently. Charles - Andre Julien, who was aware of me social status and mission of the intellectuals and who had the severeness and passion of historian is seen as a model of participant intellectual. Through all his life, at the head of the struggle, he continued to fight against colonialism and worked for the same struggle 'for history'.
