문학과 관광의 만남: 영국의 스트랫포드 온 에이븐과 한국의 봉평

국문 초록 (Abstract)

지역 개발 또는 발전에 있어서 관광에 대한 기대가 점차 커져가는 현실에서 문학관광은 지역의 지속가능한 개발의 대안으로 인식되고 있다. 셰익스피어를 매개로 한 영국을 대표하는 문학관광지 스트랫포드 온에이븐은 지속적인 문화 투자 속에서 재구축되어 왔다. 불과 20여년의 짧은 역사만을 지닌 문학관광지 한국의 평창군 봉평의 성장은 놀라운 것이지만 성장의 과정에 몰두함으로써 문학관광지로서의 신화의 재구축 과정은 미미한 상태이다. 문학과 관광의 결합이 상승작용을 일으키기 위해서는 상상력을 바탕으로 지역의 세세한 프로그램이나 문학유산 하나하나마저도 문학을 떠나서는 설명될 수 없다는 원론적 사실에 천착해야 한다. 본 논문은 영국의 세계적인 문학관광지 스트랫포드 온 에이븐과 한국의 대표적인 문학관광지 봉평을 비교함으로써 한국의 문학관광이 나아가야 할 방향을 탐색할 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Considering that tourism plays a great role in regional development or growth, literary tourism can be an important way of sustainable development. Stratford-on Avon in Britain is a world-famous literary tourist destination, as a combination of a spiritual world based on Shakespeare and tourism industry, which has been reconstructed in consistently investing in cultural heritage. And although Bongpyung-myon, located in Gangwon-do, Korea, has a short history as a literary tourist destination based on Lee Hyo-seok, its development is surprising. But the destination has a long way to go in cultural tourism because it is still being developed, not fully settled down yet, and confusing the significance of literary tourism by just showing interest in the local economy. And literary tourist destinations are entirely based on literature, but this principle is a little neglected or ignored in this agricultural town. By comparing the two places, this study is to explore and propose ways literary tourist destinations should be constructed and directed in Korea.
