The purpose of this study was to validate the Korean children's temperament typology by finding out there were any differences in child's social competence according to the types of temperament and the relationships of subdimentions between temperament and social competence.
In this study, 250 children(4-5 years old) who participated in Chun(1992) were randomly selected as subjects. Children's temperament and social competence were measured by the Temperament Rating Scale and Kohn's Social Competence Rating Scale. One-way ANOVA was used and Pearson's r were calculated to analyze the data.
The results were as follows:
1) There were differenes in child's social competence according to the types of temperament. The child's Self-Regulative type showed the highest social competence and Regulation-Deficient type showed the lowest.
2) The subdimentions of child's temperament had relations with their social competence subdimention except the dimention of emotional responses.
