미국 사진의 ‘New Landscape' 연구 = A Study on the ‘New Landscape' of American Photography

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This essay describes photographers' photographic methodology and development process of landscape pictures, by examining concept of landscape, American landscape pictures in the 19th century and the work of landscape photographers appeared since 1970s. There are two accesses to landscape pictures. The first thing is that the landscape picture is intended for art. The second one is to introduce colors in the process of taking landscape pictures, breaking from black and white that were necessary conditions for aesthetic expression. It should be paid attention. In the history of art, the flow of raising recognition of landscape can be read in the change of 17th century paintings, and in the history of photograph, it can be read in William Jenkins' New Topographics Exhibition. William Jenkins saw an objective hope of landscape picture, newly from neutralization, of New Topographics represented by Timothy H. O' Sullivan. Hereafter, a great number of photographers expressed their landscape ideology by means of same photographic methodology.New Color photographers intended to recognize the world with color. As the result of it, they realized color is able to fully deliver photographer's sensitivity, as wellas to revive shape and color of an object, in the same way as black and white. Therefore, they sound artistic potentiality, being far away from the ritual expression of black-and-white photograph.
