This study gives attention to Japanese literature of colonial Chosun in the 1920's when Koreans started to present Japanese writings in the Japanese magazines published in Chosun during the colonial period. I traced narratives and discourses presented when Koreans and Japanese permeated and competed mutually. Through these writings, we can see the aspects how colonial entangled desire of daily life was represented in the narratives. This article analyzed them focusing on the Japanese magazine Chosunkouron and Chosun and Manchuria.
Japanese literature of colonial Chosun in the 1920's was the mixed place of Koreans and Japanese. Koreans entered the Japanese literary world. Their narratives reveals contemporary strained relations between Koreans and Japanese in the colony. Lee, Su-chang, one of the Korean writers, presented Japanese short stories and translations consciously to the Japanese literary world. However, he had the difficulties as a colonial Korean in advancing toward the Japanese literary world. The embarrassment of writing in the language of the colonial ruler was expressed in the form of confessing narrative falling into the inner world. In other words, the colonial memory of Koreans was expressed and aroused individually and repeatedly through confession style.
