I have focused my study on the urban tissue of traditional urban housing area(Don-am district in Seoul) from 1940's to 1960's. At that time, the modern management system was introduced into housing industry and urban fabric of Seoul had been transformed rapidly. The new housing type(traditional Urban Housing) based on the conventional housing type had been evolved in that context. At the beginning, Don-am district was provided by japanese government in choson (korea); a land of adjustment work In 1937-1940. For this reason, a fundamental housing unit of Don-am district set standard for japanese housing. But actually korean traditional urban housing was constructed in this district. Through an investigation, we could see that Don-am district was different with the other traditional urban housing area such as Buk-chon in the size and form of the plot block. Besides a conflict between a plot(for japanese housing) and a built system(for traditional urban housing) has occurred, we could find its some deformation in the type of traditional urban housing. The attention of this study is to grasp the relationship of urban traditional housing and a housing tissue and to analyze the morphological character of large-scale plot(block). For this purpose, I have payed attention to the relationship between the housing area tissue and a type of urban traditional housing. And I classified the various compositions of a court, entrance space, street(traditional urban housing area structure) etc. The results of this research are as followings; 1) There are four housing area patterns and four traditional urban housing types(as a use) in Don-am. 2) Unlikely the other traditional urban housing area in Seoul, forms and characters of block in Don-am district housing area are various and it is prevalent the case that the same type(form) of traditional urban housing(with keeping the typological features)is repeated in one block. 3) The north way entrance found out frequently, which is by no means common in the traditional urban housing.
