배우자의 실직과 여성노동공급－보험으로서의 여성노동－ = Job Loss and Wife's Labor Supply: Female Labor as an Insurance

Using data from the Korean Labor Income Panel Study(KLIPS), this paper investigates the role of wife's labor supply as an insurance for the household income shock. I examine the responses of wives' labor supplies before and after husbands' displacements. In an attempt to evaluate the extent of the labor supply responses, I also estimate the changes in wives' labor earnings after husbands' job losses. The results shows that the labor supplies and earnings of low educated women decrease in response to husbands' job losses whereas high educated women's labor supplies and earnings compensate the income loss from the husbands' displacements.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 한국노동패널을 사용하여 여성노동공급이 가구의 경제 충격에 대해 보험의 기능을 하는지 고찰한다. 이를 위해 여성의 노동공급이 남편 실직의 충격 전 후로 어떠한 반응을 보이는지 여가수요함수를 추정하여 살펴보고, 여성의 근로 소득 변화가 실직 후 남편의 근로소득을 얼마나 대체하는지에 관해 살펴본다. 여가수요함수의 추정결과, 고학력 여성의 경우 남편의 실직 전후 노동공급이 유의 하게 증가하는 반면, 저학력 여성의 노동공급은 남편의 실직 전후에 노동공급이 오히려 감소하는 것이 나타났다. 또한, 남편 실직 후 여성의 근로소득 변화 역시 노동공급 변화와 비슷한 양상을 보여 고학력 여성의 근로소득 증가는 남편의 실직 후 근로소득 감소를 상당부분 대체하는 반면, 저학력 여성의 근로소득은 남편의 실직과 함께 감소하는 양상을 보인다.
