고신총회세계선교회(KPM) 선교사들이 사역하는 선교지 신학교들의 교리문답교육 현황연구 = The Current Situation of Catechetical Education in the Theological Schools in the Mission Fields in which the missionaries of Korea Presbyterian Mission(KPM) are working

The Reformed Church aims to follow God’s order to spread the Gospel around the world and build Reformed churches. Historically the Reformed Church followed the inheritance of the reformers and made the Confession of Faith and the Catechism based on the Bible and Christian doctrine to teach children, new believers, and existing believers. Through examining Church history and the history of mission, we can see that Reformed Confession and Catechism are the key elements for building reformed churches in mission fields. Keeping in mind that the critical role of cate- chism education in the mission fields, especially within the Reformed Church, it is undeniable that students who are preparing to be pastors in the mission must be well-educated and knowledgeable of the Reformed Confession and Catechism.
This study aims to investigate the current situation of catechetic education in the mission fields among the missionaries of Korean Presbyterian Mission(KPM), which aims to “construct reformed churches for the World” and to provide some suggestions for effectual catechistic teaching methods. The result of questionnaire which was held for the theological schools where the KPM missionaries are working shows us that there is no catechetical education in more than half of all schools which participated in the survey. This result reflects that most of the missionaries from KPM do not recognize the fact that the catechetical education is the foundation of the formation and building of the Reformed Church. As a response, this study argues that the KPM Headquarter must educate its missionaries that catechism edu- cation is a foundational element of “reformed church building” rather than an optional element. In order to achieve this, this study makes a few sugges- tions: the mission center should request the theological schools, which are responsible for educating missionary candidates, to set catechism studies as mandatory in their coursework. Catechism studies must also be integrated in commissioning training for missionary candidates as well as re-education, and missionaries should translate the catechistic script to native languages to be used in baptism preparations and doctrine educations.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

개혁교회는 교회를 개혁하고 주님의 명령에 따라 땅끝까지 복음을 전하여 개혁교회를 세우는데 진력한다. 종교개혁자들과 그들의 신앙의 유산을 이어 받은 개혁교회는 성경과 교리에 기초한 신앙고백서와 교리문답서를 만들어 그것을 자녀들과 신자들에게 가르쳤고, 개혁교회의 파송을 받은 선교사들도 자신들의 사역지에서 개혁주의 신앙고백과 교리문답을 번역하여 가르쳤다. 한국에 온 장로교 선교사들도 처음부터 성경과 함께 신앙고백과 교리문답을 전하고 가르쳐주었다. 그 결과 한국에도 개혁교회가 세워지게 되었다. 이처 럼 교회사와 선교역사는 개혁주의 신앙고백과 교리문답교육이 개혁교회를 세우는데 필수적인 요소라는 것을 보여준다. 개혁주의 교리문답교육이 개혁 교회 건설의 필수적인 조건이라면, 선교사들뿐만 아니라 교회를 개척하고 사역하는 현지 교회 목회자들이 교리문답교육의 중요성을 인식하고 그것을 효과적으로 가르칠 수 있어야 한다. 그런데 선교지 신학교에서 개혁주의 신 앙고백과 교리문답을 가르치지 않는다면 그들은 자신의 목회지에서 개혁주 의 신학과 신앙을 가르칠 수 없을 것이며 개혁교회를 세워나갈 수 없을 것 이다. 본 논문은 “개혁주의 세계교회 건설”을 목표로 삼고 있는 고신세계선교회 (KPM: Korea Presbyterian Mission) 선교사들이 사역하고 있는 신학교들의 교 리문답교육의 현황을 조사하고, 교리문답교육을 제안하기 위해 연구되었다. KPM 선교사들이 사역하고 있는 신학교들을 대상으로 한 조사는 절반 이상 의 신학교들이 교리문답교육을 교과목으로 가르치지 않고 있음을 보여준다. 이러한 결과는 KPM 선교사들이 교리문답교육이 개혁주의 신앙의 형성과 개 혁교회 설립의 기초가 된다는 사실을 충분히 인식하지 못하고 있다는 것을 보여준다. 그래서 본 논문은 KPM 본부가 선교사들에게 교리문답교육이 “개 혁주의 교회건설”을 위한 하나의 선택사항이 아니라 필수요소임을 인식할 수 있도록 해야 하며, 이를 위해 선교 본부가 선교사 지원자들의 신학교육을 책임지고 있는 신학대학원에 교리문답교육을 필수 과목으로 지정하도록 요 청하고, 선교사 파송훈련과 재교육에 교리문답교육을 실행해야 하며, 선교사 들이 교리문답서를 현지어로 번역하여 세례준비와 교리교육에 사용하도록 해야 한다고 제안한다.
