비평논문:“이론화의덫”: 오늘날의 역사교육학에 대한 비판적 단상 = A Critical Essay on the Contemporary Studies on History Education in Korea

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This is a historiographical essay on the contemporary studies on history education in Korea, in particular, its sustaining concerns, problems, and academic horizon etc. By mainly focusing on two major recent works in the field, The Contents and the Methods of History Education and The Theory of History Education, it aims at analyzing the present state and drawbacks of history education as an academic field. It claims that one of the most damaging problems found in the field is an excessive devotion to the theorization, which causes the separation of history education from history and more harmfully runs the risk of establishing the theory without the consideration of practicality. In addition, two works raise some important issues regarding the readership and the intellectuals’responsibility in the nowadays academic world. Consequently, this study proposes some suggestions for a redirection of history education: first, the search for a new object and scope of history education; second, the pursuit of a new theory based upon historical studies; third, the change in academic conversational topic which takes the practical circumstance into consideration.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본고는 한국 역사교육학계의 화두와 학문적 지평을 비판적 시각에서 검토한 일종의 비평논문이다. 특히 최근 국내에서 출판된 두 권의 책,『 역사교육의 내용과 방법』과『역사교육의 이론』의 내용과 논점을 검토함으로써, 오늘날 역사교육학계의 문제점을 성찰하는 것을 본고의 목적으로 한다. 이 두 책의 논의를 분석한 결과에 따르면, 오늘날 우리 역사교육학계의 가장 커다란 문제는 과도한 이론화의 함정에 빠져 있다는 것이다. 그리고 그 결과 역사적 시각이 결여된 역사교육의 이론이 제시되는 한편, 이와 함께 현장과의 정합성이 고려되지 못한 구태적인 이론의 수립이 계속되어 왔다는 것이다. 아울러 임용고사라는 현실적인 문제를 감안할 때, 이 두 책은 독자와 그에 조응하는 지식인의 책임이라는 보다 커다란 주제를 논의의 지평으로 확대시킨다. 결론적으로 본고는, 지나친 이론화에 대한 경도가 역사교육에 관한 논의에서‘역사’와‘교육’을 소외시킬 위험성을 가지고 있다고 주장하면서, 이에 대한 대안으로 역사 교육의 대상과 범위에 대한 새로운 인식의 전환, 역사 내용이 뒷받침된 이론의 수립, 그리고 현장에서의 실천을 염두에 둔 학문적 화두의 제시를 제안한다.
