This Research is to suggest data to create class culture of humanity guidance background and respect him/herself and others by using proper languages at school by recognizing the influences of class-centered language culture program to elementary school students' language violence and self-esteem. To achieve the research objective, the set research questions are the following.
First, what are the influences to the language violences by managing the elementary school class-centered language training program?
Second, what are the influences to the self-esteem by managing the elementary school class-centered language training program?
The research target was selected to 60 elementary school students at H-elementary school in Seoul Kwangjin-gu, their homogeneity was obtained through a language violence and self-esteem preliminary test, and they divided into 30 students of experimental group and 30 students of control group. Each experimental and control group split into two groups of 15 students to manage the program twice, at the beginning and end of semester, to consider the different reactions due to the closeness with teacher and phase of the procedure. To the experimental group, the language culture improvement program was opened two to three times per week, 40 minutes of each session and continued for six weeks and 13 sessions in students' creative experience activity class and no action was given to the control group. After the program, post test was given about language violence and self esteem to the each group.
To accomplish the goal of this project, the language culture improvement program was divided into three parts which were a role play to reduce language violence and aggression and program of using a nonviolent communication method from a former research, the educational data from the student language culture improvement project that progressed from 2011 for two years by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the Korea Federation of Teacher's Associations to form proper language usage culture, and using respectful languages between classmates.
The measurement of this research was the language violence and self-esteem test. The language violence test sheet was modified to be suitable for higher grades of elementary students from Infante and Wigley(1986)'s verbal aggressiveness scale by Lee Soo-young(2010). The self-esteem test sheet was translated and revised by Chun Byung-jae from Rosenberg(1965)'s Rosenberg Self-esteem scale.
To interpret the collected data, the statistic processing program, SPSS 18.0 was used. The t-test was used to assess the homogeneity of experimental and control group, and the reaction specimen t-test was used to comprehend the influences of the level of language violence and self-esteem of the experimental group by this program.
First, after the class-centered language culture improvement program, the language violence of the experimental group was meaningfully and extremely decreased than the control group.
Second, after the class centered language culture improvement program, the experimental group gained meaningfully and extremely high level of self-esteem than the control group.
According to the result of this research, class unit language culture improvement program management provides influences to higher grade of elementary students in their language violence and self-esteem. This indicates that listening and identifying of others, solving problem in nonviolence method, using respectful words activities allow students to be less exposed to a violent language using environment and affect habits of their language usages and violence level. In addition, since it provides experiences of respectfulness to each others, it implies it influences to build students' self-esteem.
