Nobody can deny that we study Chinese characters textbook to make a better textbook. Chinese characters textbook was published even before Chinese character subject was designated as independent subject in the curriculum in 1972. Although there were some differences by curriculum after the third curriculum 20 plus kinds of textbooks in middle school and 10 plus kinds of textbooks in high school were published and used as core textbooks for Chinese character education in the field. The standard of textbook analysis must be the curriculum rather than personal educational faith or taste. In other words, the standards must be if it reflects characteristics of Chinese characters that the curriculum pursues, educational goals, contents, subjects, teaching and learning methods and evaluation and if students can participate in education easily and joyfully. Although the study on Chinese characters textbook started from analysis of textbook composition, contents accommodation and errors, it developed to curriculum related analysis, contents level, hierarchical study elements and bookbinding alternatives with curriculums changed. Studies on Chinese characters textbook have focused on specific field such as classical Chinese grammar and Chinese poems and specific contents such as history books. As studies on statement of learning goal, connection between subject contents and evaluation, composition of textbook, bookbinding such as organization and illustrations have not been actively made, studies in these fields should be developed. The first priority in Chinese characters textbook should be placed on the answer of the question why students need to learn Chinese characters. We must remember that the most important people that we should consider when we make Chinese characters textbook are neither writers or editors nor Chinese characters teachers in the field but students who learn Chinese characters using the textbook. In other words, students should be able to access to selected contents and subjects and core content and concept in achievement standard as well as object of the unit practically. In further studies, it is expected to review the study history in the field of Chinese characters, Sino vocabularies, verses and poems respectively according to the aforementioned standards and evaluated if study standards are valid. Participation of fellow scholars is also expected.
