Vehicle mass estimation is commonly performed using longitudinal dynamics and IMU measurements. However, this process is influenced by factors such as road grade, external wind forces, and the pitch angles of both the vehicle and the IMU. These elements are impossible to estimate directly and degrade the precision of mass estimation, subsequently threatening the performance of various controllers that rely on accurate mass information. This study proposes a novel vehicle mass estimation algorithm based on a bandpass filter designed to estimate the factors that degrade the accuracy of mass estimation. The proposed algorithm is validated through CarSim simulation experiments.
