[Purpose] : This research is to take advantage of excavating the biomarker associated with chronic diseases by calculating the high-quality clinical data and the production of resources by means of standardizing the transport, clinical examination and the process of resource production regarding the samples collected the targets of the city-based cohort follow-up study of the epidemiological survey on Korean genome project and maintaining its continuity.
[Methods] : This research was conducted as a follow-up survey on the subjects who agreed to participate in the examinations of the nation's 10 cities-based cohort participating institutions. The collected samples of the subjects' blood and urine were acquired at the specified time every day and safely transported refrigerated (2 ℃ ~8 ℃) to the central laboratory within a maximum of 5 hours. Transported samples were registered onto LIS system only for task and the quantities and conditions of the samples were checked and recorded followed by the reception and the resource division based on the standardized central recycling protocol. After the clinical examinations were turned over to the laboratory only for analyzing the city-based cohort, 3 times of analysis, before, during, and after analysis, and the confirmation of the results, were conducted and the resource production of serum, plasma, and urine was performed on the refrigerated table in the clean room only for the prevention of pollu社on. Resources were kept in the super low temperature refrigeration (-70 ℃ or less) in the biobank of the headquaters until it would be deposited and were transported refrigerated to Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at the specified day of the week.
[Results] : Participations in this study will have been performed from May 19, 2016 to February 18, 2017. With 8,058 subjects in the entire targeted subject number of 9,000 recruited, 89.5% of achievement rate was attained in the starting 2016 project. Temperature during the sample transport was kept at an average of 4.7 ℃ and its transports during the project periods were performed without a hitch by utilizing the professional transport system in which real-time temperature can be monitored, and the location tracking and the vibration condition can be checked. With regard to the results of the clinical examinations, the results of 8,058 persons were uploaded by via of the integrated management system of diseases and health, and regarding the present state of the deposited human resources, 79,114 vials of serum, 80,413 vials of plasma, and 8,024 vials of urine were deposited on the one appointed day of week per week within the project period and the production rates of viral were 98.2 % of serum and 99.8% of plasma.
[Conclusion] : This research followed the standard protocol of each phase ranging from the collection of the samples of the large-sized cohort to transport, clinical examination, resource production and enhanced the standardization by the increased operational efficiency through quality management of high level and exclusive system. It is considered that the continual quality management of the samples which provides the qualitative improvement in collecting the human resources for the clinical examinations and the researches and the results of the high-quality clinical examinations in the excavation of the health indicators associated with chronic diseases will contribute to the activation of clinical examinations, epidemiology, dielectric studies of Korea.
