오랜 시간을 자연과 함께 해온 인간의 역사는 질서에 의해 조화를 이루고 있으며 끊임없이 공존하며 존재해 왔다. 자연의 섭리 안에서 인간은 자연에 대한 감동을 다양한 표현 방식으로 나타내려고 노력해 왔고 모방과 창조를 통해 자연을 하나의 예술작품으로 창조하였다. 자연물 중에서도 특히 나무의 나이테는 다양한 색채와 형태를 가지고 있다. 나무의 삶은 인간 개개인의 삶과 같음을 보여주고, 나무의 경험은 나이테로 알 수 있다. 그 삶은 점에서부터 시작해 더 큰 원으로 점차 확장된다. 이러한 이미지는 나이테의 조형화를 연구하는 동기가 되었다.
나이테가 가지고 있는 상징적 의미와 형태의 특징을 시각과 감성세계를 연구, 관찰하고 인간의 정서를 접목하였다. 이에 본 연구자는 나이테를 주제로 한 조형작품을 제작하여 자연에 순응하는 삶과 무한한 생명력을 느낄 수 있도록 하는데 목적을 두고 있다.
본론에서는 나이테의 조형성에 대해 알아보고 나무의 유기적인 생태를 고찰 후 나이테의 특징을 연구하는데 참고하였다. 작품제작에서는 반복적인 선의 요소를 강조하여 회화적으로 표현하였고 배경화면을 여백으로 남겨 나이테의 상징적 이미지를 집중시킬 수 있게 제시하였다. 또한 펜의 견고함의 특성을 이용하여 나이테가 가지고 있는 다양한 이미지를 조형화함으로써 갖가지 선의 굵기와 잉크가 가진 특유의 깔끔함을 형태에 맞춰 적정하게 사용하여 나무의 나이테 표현 가능성을 제공하고 평면 회화작품으로 제시하고자 한다.
끝으로 나무의 나이테가 가진 조형성을 바탕으로 향후에도 다양한 방법과 형태 변형을 통해 시각적 효과와 완성도 높은 작품 방향을 지속적으로 모색하며 예술가로서 대상을 바라보는 열린 시각과 내면세계의 교감으로 다양한 연구를 진행하여 창의적인 표현 방식으로 발전할 수 있기를 기대한다.
