최고관리자 교체와 경영성적 간의 관계에 대한 탐색적 연구 - 상장 식음료 제조기업을 중심으로 - = An Exploratory Study on the Relationship between CEO Successions and Profitability of Food Producing Firms

국문 초록 (Abstract)

한국증권거래소에 상장되어 있는 46개 식음료 제조기업에서 수집한 1986년부터 1996년까지 11년간의 시계열횡단(時系列橫斷 pooled time-series cross-sectional) 데이터를 분석하여 다음과 같은 사실을 알 수 있었다.
첫째, 최고관리자 교체는 당해년도의 기업 경영성적과 부정적인 관계가 있다.
둘째, 내부인물 승진기용이 아닌 외부인물 영입도 기업 경영성적과 부정적인 관계가 있다.
셋째, 그러나 이와 같은 부정적인 효과는 최고관리자 교체 당해년도에만 해당되고 다음 해까지 이어지지는 않는다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study has been undertaken to probe the effect of CEO's on firm's profitability at Korean food and beverage manufacturing firms. By using the data collected from 46 food and beverage manufacturing firms listed in Korea Stock Exchange from the period of 1986 through 1996, we would come to the following conclusions,
1. CEO successions do have a negative effect on firms' profitability.
2. Outsiders (CEOs not coming from within the firm) affect firms' profitability more negatively than insiders (CEOs coming from within the firm).
The results summarized above enable us to maintain that this study would have following implications : since CEO successions perse negatively affect firm's profitability, firms are encouraged to seek the ways to alleviate negative effects of CEO successions on profitability by replacing outgoing CEOs with capable insiders.
