국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 최근에 영국 보수당이 지역공동체의 대안으로 제시한 큰 사회론을 신노동당의 제3의 길과 비교하고자 한다. 비교의 초점은 두 이념의 공동체 형성 의 전략에서 국가의 성격과 역할이다. 이를 통해 본 논문은 큰 사회론과 제3의 길의 정체성을 밝히고자 한다. 연구 결과 노동당과 보수당이 서로 상이한 이념정당임에도 불구하고 이들이 표 방하는 이념인 제3의 길과 큰 사회론은 불레어주의와 대처주의의 합성인 블레처 리즘(Blatcherism)의 영역에 속해 있다. 즉 두 이념은 시장자유주의에 기반해서 상품화의 정치를 지지하고 있다. 두 이념의 차이가 있다면 제3의 길이 ``사회투자국 가``를 통해 재상품화의 정치를 추구한다면, 큰 사회론은 사회적 지지기반을 형성 하는 ``큰 사회지원국가``를 통해 시장자유주의를 지원하고 있다는 점이다. 이런 맥락에서 볼 때 ``사회투자국가와 큰 사회지원국가를 통한 지역공동체 형성 전략``은 샴쌍둥이처럼 기본적인 방향과 전략은 같지만 전술이 다른 것으로 이해된다. 즉 두 전략은 탈상품화가 아닌 상품화와 재상품화를 지향하는 것으로서 계급이 아닌 책임성과 독립성을 가진 개인을 통한 공동체를 지향한다는 것이 본 논문의 결론 이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The objective of this thesis is to explore the Third Way of the Labour Party and Big Society of the Conservative Party presented as an alternative for British society. The Third Way has criticized the First Way, social democracy, and the Second Way, neo-liberalism and asserts that it is a new ideology. On the other hand, Big Society regards the Third Way as social democracy based on big state and its suggestion can save the British society to be isolated, distrusting, unengaged because of the Third Way. As expected by the Third Way and Big Society, is it true? This study`s results prove that they belong to Blatcherism which is a complex of Thatcher`s and Blair`s ideas. In other words, they pursue commodification politics based on market liberalism. If there are differences between the two, the Third Way aims at re-commodification with social investment state whereas Big Society helps neo-liberalism with big society support state which establishes a base of social support. Likewise, the both of the Third Way and Big Society as the Siamese twins are the same in a direction of strategy but different in tactics and means for the goal.
