서비스-러닝과 장소 기반 지역 협력을 통한 대학교육의 변화 지향 = Enhancing University Education through Service-Learning and Place-based Community Engagement

국문 초록 (Abstract)

대학은 교육과 연구 그리고 비교적 늦게 미국 주립대학의 공공서비스 전통에서 시작한 봉사를 핵심 이념으로 하고 있다. 세계화와 더불어 경쟁 심화와 경제 변화 상황에서 대학은 순위와 취업 경쟁에 치중하며 본연의 역할과 거리를 두었다. 그러나 대학은 최근 교육의 내실을 기하며 사회 공헌도 확대하는 서비스-러닝에 노력을 기울이고 있다. 서비스-러닝은 1990년대 미국에서 대학교육이 사회 문제에는 무관심한 체 학생들의 개인 역량에만 주력하는 상황에서 대학의 자성적 노력과 정부, 사회기관의 지원으로 확대 되었다. 대학의 사회적 책무와 관련하여 서비스-러닝은 사회문제에 대해 비판적 안목으로 지역사회와의 호혜적 관계를 강조하고, 한정된 지역을 대상으로 대학과 지역사회가 종합적인 협업을 강조하는 장소 기반의 지역 협력으로 발전하고 있다. 한국도 교육 현장에서 다양한 봉사활동을 강조하며 최근 일부 대학에서 서비스-러닝을 현장과 연계한 지역기반학습으로 진행하는데 아직 특정 지역, 학과에 한정되어 있다. 대학은 보편적으로 지역사회와 특정 문제를 중심으로 협력하는데, 지역사회의 협회, 기관, 기반시설 등 자산에서 잠재력을 찾는 새로운 안목과 시도를 고려해 볼 수 있다. 대학의 서비스-러닝과 연계한 지역의 수요와 자산에 대한 조사와 연구는 학습 효과를 높이고 지역 변화를 이끌어 내는 또 다른 방법이 될 수 있다. 서비스-러닝과 대학-지역 협력은 보다 나은 세상을 위한 대학의 변화 노력이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Universities pursue teaching, research and service as central roles in which the service was added lately from the public service tradition in US state university. As university education became popular, students devoted their time to individual capacity building, and increased competition with globalization put universities into ranking and employment pressure. In the 1990s, universities distanced from social issues began service-learning and community engagement to emphasize practical experience and service to communities. Governments and social organizations supported such change to take place in numerous universities. With regard to the university social responsibility, service-learning emphasizes critical approach to social issues and reciprocal relationships with community. Place-based community engagement is another approach university cooperates with specified place diverse activities with long-term commitment. Korea has emphasized volunteering activities for education, but service-learning has been adopted by only a few universities and majors. Community engagement often has taken problem-focused approach. New perspectives and efforts are needed to find the potential in the assets of the community such as associations and institutions. A research activity of local assets carried out in connection with the service-learning would increase the effects of learning and regional change. Service-learning with university-community collaboration is a transformational efforts at universities for a better world.
