From 2020 to 2023, Iron Museum, a local private museum, carried out a few projects. This study started with the project team's problem-solving challenges while operating the Iron Museum projects. The team gradually realized the project from the perspective of individual programs, expanding the discussion regarding the museum communities. The researchers selected the museum's three representative projects to examine and reconstruct the project process and analyze the collected data. Together with the project team, the researchers analyzed and cross-examined the project's process and results.
Moreover, to enhance the validity of the research, the FGIs were carried out. After the FGIs the researchers and project teams discussed the direction of the future project and this process led to recurring questions. These questions were ‘What is a participatory activity, not just experience?’, ‘Locals and factories, how to engage neighbors?’ and 'What and how true museum professionals do things effectively?' While scrutinizing and sorting these questions, the researchers could confirm that ‘community’ is the key to the operation of a local private museum. Therefore, the answer to the Iron Museums' problem-solving requires an approach centered on the museum communities. This study identified ‘community’ into ‘participating communities’, ‘local communities,’ and ‘collaborative communities’ to discuss in connection with the everyday museum activities. The researchers hope this study will trigger more active discussion to facilitate the reality of local private museums among diverse museum communities.
