The fish faunas, dlatribution and community dynamics of zacco platypus and Z, temmincki in the Han river of Korea were studied from March, 1983 to November. 1989.
A theses submitted to the Committee of the Graduate School, Chungnam National University in partial fulfullment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of philofophy in AUGUST 1991.
Among fish species collected from 890 sampling sites. 22 families, 39 genus, and 85 species could be identified. Of these species, six species of Zacco platypus, carassius auratus, Moroco oxyephalus, Z. temmincki, misgurnus anguiillcaudatus and M.
mizolepis are compose about 50% of total number of individuals.
From among 14 basins of the Han river, Z. temmincki is distributed dominant species in an upper basins of the Namhan river and the soyang river, but not distributed dominant species in an upper basins of the Namhan river and the soyang river, but not distributed in a basin of the chungmi stream and a lower of the Han river,on the other hard Z.
platypus is distributed dominant species in the dther basin so that distrebutional range of Z. platypus is wider than that of Z. temmincki
According to longitudinal diatribution range, Z. platypus is widely distributes from an upper to lower reaches, repersents the maximum abundance in lower and middle reaches. On the other hand, that of Z.
temmincki is destributes from an upper to middle reaches. represents the maximum abundance in middle and upper reaches, Therefore, distribution of Z. temmincki have tendency to isolation or convergence.
For relative abundance of both species in relation to altltued. high abundance of Z. platypus is between 100m and 150m in altitude. that of Z. temmincki rs between 350m and 400m. Also, Altitude that Z. platypus dominance under change to Z. temmincki dominance os between 150m and 350m.
In the distribution and abundance. of Z. platypus and Z. temmincki in characteristic 5 region(mountain valley, stream of plain, stream of region, and abundant in stream of plain and man made dam. So that, resistance range of Z. platypus for water pollution and environmental change is wider than of Z. temmincki.
Denpending on the number of species and relative abundance in fish community of the Han river, it was destinct difference among fishes communities of Z. temmincki dominant. Z. temmincki-Z. playpus, Z.
platpus dominant, and Z. temmincki absent(p<0.01). of the 22common species of the Han river, the fish species belog to Z. temmincki dominant community is Moroco sp. Microphysogobio longidorsalis, Liobagrus andersoni, Z. temmincki, Coreoleuciscus splendidus, and Coreoperca herzl, that of Z. temmincki-Z. platypus community is Cobitis koreensis, pungtungia herzi,
and Nemacheilus toni, that of Z. platypus dominat community is Z. platypus, Moroco oxycephaius, Microphysogobio yaluensis, Pseudogobio escinus, and Memibarbus longirostris, and that of Z. platypus communities is carassius auratus, Misqurnus mizolepis, M. anguillicaudatus, odontobutis platycephala, Rhinnogobius brunneus, Remiculter leuciscus, and Aphyocypris chinensis.
According to interspefic covariation analsis, Z. platypus is increase or decrease with M. oxycephalus, M. yaluensis, M. longirostris, M. mizolepis, A. chinensis, A. yamatsutae, O platycephaia, P. esocinus, R. brunneus and M. anguillicaudatus while estuary, man made dam, and stream of city), Z. temmincki is abundant in stream of mountain valley, but not distributed in streamof estuary and city region while Z. platypus is distributed all characteristic
