Hui-yuan had been stayed at Lushan during 30 years, he never came out from the temple till A.D 416 and died at 83 years old there. His book dacheng-dayi-zhang(大乘大義章, the Sentence of Mahayana and Great Meaning), that mainly Hui-yuan asked about Dharma-nature, Embodiment of Dharma. Chant Samadhi and so on to Kumarajiba. In his book shamen-bujing-wangzhe-lun(沙門不敬王者論, the Theory of Monks never adore to King) insisted that the Buddhist monks need not to adore to king. Zen is very necessary tool to cul the worldly cares and learning to make peaceful mind. He also recommend to chant Amitaba Buddha for insight inner nature. He had a doctrine of double training Zen and Chant. Mountain Lushan has been famous place to Buddhist and Taoist. All of both had been lived there for saving their soul since Hui-yuna``s entered this mountain at East Chin dynasty. Hui-yuan made a society and chant with 123 members for the rebirth at the Paradise of West. This society call it the Society of White Lotus(白蓮 社). The name originated from white lotus ponds in the mountain. While both monks and lay persons in the society, both of all insight that Buddhanature contained themselves like white lotus blooming in the dirty pond. The society was costitutes 123 members as well as famous 18 monks. They prayed for rebirth in the paradise of west to Amita Buddha. This society was a Amita Buddha``s chant group.They chant Amita Buddha with practice Zen and keep the strict rule.
