Due to the prolonged life expectancy in modern society, a lot of elderly people, especially widows compared to widowers, are confronted by the problem of living without spouse for long years. The main purpose of this study is to understand comprehensive views on remarriage of the elderly widows, to investigate their attitude and some variables influencing it, and to suggest some useful data for the further research in this area. 173 single elderly women residing in Seoul were investigated and the data were analyzed by the statistical methods of F-test, correlation, and multiple regression. The major findings are as follows: (1) The cause of the positive attitude toward is `loneliness`, and the cause of the negative is `old age`. (2) Age, the loneliness and the satisfaction of the previous marriage are found to be influential for the expectation level of remarrige. (3) The lower the age, the higher the loneliness, and the higher the satisfaction of the first marriage, the more positive the attitudes for the remarriage.
