The classical theory of organization by Taylor who wasn't concerned about leadership had been under the control of scientific administration. But the guidance was thought to be very important to the human relation in modern society. The recent theories in educational administration suggest that school administrators should do the behaviors under their leader in order to harmonize the duty performance with the human relationship for the aim of school organization achieved effectively.
The purpose of this study, which is based on the research of the behavioral styles of leadership, is to survey the concepts and types of Leadership, to research its theoretical background and to clarify the style of guidance which are demanded to the school administrators.
Though the theories of leadership which are various in its definition, the common points are the school administrator's technics and influences to constituent the self-regulation among their teachers so that school administrators can achieve the aim of the organization in a school and may help the harmonious moods for their teachers.
The theories of leadership are classified by three parts-1. Traits theory 2. Situation theory 3. Behavior-scientific theory 4. Contingency theory.
The traits of character in socio-phychological theory by Stogdill, Gibb and Ghiselli are to study the temperament of the school administrators on the basis of their traits and to classify their desirable types for the performance of educational administration. Situational theory by Alan, Flly, House and Hemphill is the main point that the situation is more important than the traits of the school administrators.
The behavior-scientific theory is to get the starting point to study the defects of the socio-psychological theory, to survey the acts of school administrators in advance of their traits and situation to research which type endows them to enhance the member's spirits and to influence the creativity of the organization. The behavior scientific theoriy is mainly studied by Banard, Lewin, Lippitt, White, Tannenbaum and the researchers of Ohio University and Michigan University. The representative studies on the theory are four-classified types of leadership by Halpin , the types by Likert and the administrative network by Blake and Mouton.
The contingency theory by Fiedler, Reddin, Hersey and Blanchard is the approach which is composed of the three dimensions to be studied on the situation added to dualistic methods.
The administrative patterns may be varied by the correlations of three factors the school administrator, his members and the situation of a school. That is to say that the patterns must be designed by three factors.
In conclusion, I suggest four points for the administrative patterns.
1.A school administrator must make a good plan for a school and lead the members of a school.
2.He must lead his members by the way of democracy for the adjustment of harmony among his members and their tasks.
3.He must evaluate and examine himself about the administrative behaviors objectively.
4.He must be recognized as the most important person for the organization and the traits of a school.
