내용분석을 통한 청암(靑岩) 박태준의 가치체계 연구: 허만(Hermann)의 리더십 특성 연구방법(Leadership Trait Assessment)을 중심으로 = Content Analysis for the Value System of Tae-Joon Park: Based on Hermann's Leadership Trait Assessment

his paper presents two types of content analysis methods to examine the value system of the founder of POSCO, Tae-Joon Park. First of all, this study evaluated the leadership traits of Park through Hermann's Leadership Trait Assessment method. Among the seven leadership traits identified by Hermann, Park scored the highest in 'task orientation' and 'conceptual complexity', whereas his score for 'distrust of others' was close to zero. In order to verify these three traits, an analysis was carried out on the co-occurrences and frequency of the words Park used in speeches, interviews, meeting minutes and others. As a result, Park appeared to be focused on accomplishing in 'education', 'national development' and 'world market'. Since the co-word analysis can suggest how much the speaker emphasized a certain topic, but not define the causal relation between the words, this article refers to case studies and biographies on Park to establish a framework of his value system. In conclusion, this study shows that Park's value system is based on his trust and respect for people, as well as his ability to think under complex circumstances and his capacity to carry out his patriotic service by managing POSCO.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 청암의 리더십 가치체계에 대한 인지지도를 작성하기 위해 두 가지 방법을 활용했다. 첫 번째 방법론은 마가렛 허만(Margaret G. Hermann)의 일곱 가지 지도자 특성(leadership trait)에 부합하여 청암어록에 대한 내용분석을 시도하였다. 그 결과 청암 리더십의 특성은 '과업지향성 혹은 관계지향성', '문제해결을 위한 총체적 개념의 복합성' 영역이 가장 높게 나타난 반면, '업무수행과정에서의 타인에 대한 불신' 영역은 미비하게 나타났다. 두 번째 분석방법은 청암어록에 나타나는 단어의 동시출현 빈도 및 청암의 리더십 특성과 관련된 단어의 사용빈도로 리더십 특성의 연구결과를 검증하는 것이었다. 이에 따라 '인재양성', '국가발전', '세계시장'을 겨냥한 청암의 목표의식을 유추할 수 있었으나 동시출현 빈도와 사용빈도만으로 단어 간 인과관계의 속성을 분석하기에는 한계가 있어, 청암에 대한 사례와 평전을 참고하여 청암 가치체계의 흐름을 구성했다. 본 연구는 청암의 인간중심의 사고, 전문경영인으로서의 복합적인 사고력, 그리고 ‘제철보국’을 향한 국가 지도자로서의 과업지향성이 청암의 가치체계를 구성하고 있다는 것을 보여준다.
