Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify the effects of hope and Self-efficacy on posttraumatic growth in mothers of children with cancers. Methods: A descriptive research design was used and 102 mothers participated in the study. They were primary care givers of children with cancers who were being treated at a tertiary care hospital in Seoul. A structured questionnaires which measured the degree of hope, self-efficacy, and posttraumatic growth was used for data collection. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression. Results: There were positive correlations between posttraumatic growth and hope (r=.44, p<.001) as well as self-efficacy (r=.33, p=.003). The major predictors of posttraumatic growth were religion (β=0.29, p=.001), only child or first child (β=-0.25, p=.015), the number of children in the family (β=0.25, p=.016), and hope (β=0.38, p=.001). This model explained about 30.4% of the total variables found in posttraumatic growth (F=9.84, p<.001). Conclusion: The findings from this study show that posttraumatic growth in mothers of children with cancers is largely predicted by hope indicating a need to develop nursing intervention programs to enhance hope in these mothers.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

목적: 본 연구의 목적은 소아암 환아 어머니의 희망과 자기효능감이 외상 후 성장에 미치는 영향을 확인하기 위한 것이다. 방법: 본 연구는 서술적 상관관계 연구로 연구대상자는 서울특별시에 소재한 일개 상급종합병원에서 소아암으로 치료 받고 주보호자인 어머니 102명이다. 연구도구는 희망, 자기효능감, 외상 후 성장을 측정하는 도구를 이용하여 자가 보고식의 설문지이다. 수집된 자료를 통하여 기술통계, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient와 다중회귀분석을 실시하였다. 결과: 외상 후 성장은 희망(r=.44, p<.001), 자기효능감(r=.33, p=.003)과 상관관계를 나타냈다. 외상 후 성장에 영향을 미치는 요인은 종교(β=0.27 p=.005), 환아가 독자이거나 첫째인 경우(β=-0.25, p=.029), 자녀의 수(β=0.22, p=.050) 그리고 희망(β=0.35, p=.004)이었다. 이 모형은 외상 후 성장에 약 28.2%의 설명력을 나타냈다(F=4.06, p<.001). 결론: 본 연구의 결과, 희망이 외상 후 성장에 영향을 미치는 요인으로 나타났으며, 소아암 환아 어머니의 희망을 증진시키기 위한 간호중재가 필요함을 시사한다.
