Cheongwun Yi Hae and Seomgye Yi Jam was the personages born of good ancestry, Yeoju Yi family in Namin lineage, in the middle of 17th century in which political circumstance was controlled by Noron(老論). They were very much expected to restore the family. However, Cheongwun Yi Hae died at 27 years of age, and Seomgye Yi Jam was flogged to death at 47 due to his appeal to protect the crowned prince, so the family`s expectation and their own aspiration was forsaken. As Cheongwun died at 27 and as Seomgye was flogged to death at 47, their lives are not known much. They learned the family`s academic tradition transmitted in their family through their father, and established their literature world based on it. As the elder brother Cheongwun was 13 years older than his younger brother Seomgye, Cheongwun formed his own academic world and influenced to the formation of that of Seomgye. Thus, their academic foundation can be said to be the same. However, the poems written by them show more differences than similarities. Yet, the similarities hidden behind the differences cannot be overlooked. Even though their poetry worlds base on homogeneous feature, what can be easily found from their poems is disparate imageries and difference between their expressions. It is because imageries and expression of their mentality formed the surface of their poetry worlds. The common feature in the poetry worlds of Cheongwun and of Seomgye is thought to mean the tendency of their family`s traditional literature creation. This tendency of traditional literature creation is thought to be the root of their literature worlds since both of them grew up and formed their identities in a same family. Although both of them were trained within the same academic tradition under the same father, however, the courses of their lives appeared differently. It is thought to be that imageries and expression of their mentality differed as the their lives differed from each other. It is thought that the explanation about universalities and particularities among literature worlds of various personages in a same family will become possible if the examination about similarities and differences of poetry world between Cheongwun and Seomgye is expanded. Especially, possibilities to explain diverse tendencies among personages in a family are expected.
