Korea's Simwoodo(尋牛圖), which originated from the Jinul(知訥), passes through Seosan(西山) Ambassador and leads to modern Gyeongheo(鏡虛) and Manhae(萬海). It was also popularized by (九山) and (白峰) translated into Korean. However, unlike Simwoodo presented in pictures, Simwoodo presented in texts has not been very successful in popularization, despite having a great influence on the popularization of Zen Buddhism.
In order to overcome these limitations, the Buddhist community, such as Baek Yong-sung(白龍城), Gusan, and BaekBong, attempted to convert and popularize Shim Woo-si in Chinese characters into Korean, and in the literary field, Oh Hyun's 『Simwoodo(尋牛圖)』 and Kim Ji-ha's 『Aerin(애린)』 published in the 1970s and 1980s, It achieved a certain level of literary achievement. The attempts of the two poets to find a way to live their true faces and the world through the practice of Zen Buddhism, which is at odds with the poor reality of the 1970s and 1980s, now need to be properly valued. The two poets revive Buddhist metaphysics, which could have been dormant in a dead literal sense, by creatively transforming the existing Shim Woo-si through Gyeongheo and Manhae, respectively.
