Styrene, which is used extensively as a monomer in the polymerization industry, induced sister chromatid exchanges(SCEs)by dose-responxe relationship in cultured human lymphocytes in the whole blood. When indomethacin, a specific inhibitor of prostagrandin endoperoxide synthetase(PES), exposed to whole blood together with styrene, SCEs induction by styrene was significantloy increased comparing ot styrene exposure alone. This finding suggests that PES may be involved in the biotransformation of styrene and further study was recommended.
