The purpose of this study was to investigate whether intelligence is determined by inheritance or by environment. In order to accomplish the purpose the study reviewed two opposing opinions, hereditarianism and environmentalism, based on the 'Intelligece Controversy'(1981) between H. J. Eysenck and L. Kamin.
The findings of the study were as follows :
1. Both of behavior genetists and environmentalists were agreed that the differences in intelligence between human beings wee caused by genetic factors to some extent and concurrently by environmental factors in part.
2. The only difference between behavior genetists and environmentalists was which side they emphasized in interpretation of the same research data. The behavior genetists emphasized genetic factors of statistical analysis model on twin studies, on the other hand the environmentalists emphasized environmental factors of the correlationship between experience resemblance and intelligence resemblence of twin.
3. Until now the proposition asserted by behavior genetists, 'the heritability of intelligence would be 80 per sent', could be accepted only as an unproofed hypothesis level.
4. As educators we should have concern about the home environmental factors of each student based on the concept of heredity and environment interaction on intelligence.
