The human beings have been highly interested in the fortune telling in both western and eastern world. While the study on the fortune prediction ranges from atmospheric phenomena to economics, gene variation and scientific progress, the fortune telling of the men has also interested a lot of predecessors.
Since Seo Seng published the books such as 'Yeonhaejapyeong(淵海子平)' and "Ming-Li Philosophy' in 1162, there have appeared a lot of Ming-Li literatures for the past thousand years, including 'Ming-Lijeongjong(命理正宗)','Sammyeongtonghoe(三命通會)', 'Japyeongjinjoen(子平眞詮)', 'Jeokcheonsu(滴天髓)' and 'Gungtongbogam(窮通寶鑑)'.
In the recent years, the Ming-Li philosophers such as Shim Hyo Chum, Lim Cheol Cho and Seo Rak Oh had introduced and compiled how to read the human destiny(called as 'Gan myeong') into the 3 thesaurus titled 'Japyeongjinjeon(子平眞詮)','Gungtongbogam(窮通寶鑑)'and 'Jeokcheonsucheonmi(滴天髓闡微)'. Among them, 'Japyeongjinjeon(子平眞詮)' and 'Jeokcheonsucheonmi(滴天髓闡微)' are now the essential textbooks for those who study the Four pillars and Ming-Li Philosophy. It was from Chosun Dynasty when the Ming-Li philosophy of Japyeong had been introduced in Korea, but people starts to show interests in the recent 30 years. Furthermore, it has been only 8 years since the book 'Japyeongjinjeon' had been translated in Korean. As the formal history of the Ming-Li in the Korean society is too short, it is currently difficult to find the studies or literatures concerning 'Japyeongjinjeon'. These days the several literatures partially on the Ming-Li, but it was sorry for me to see those cover the limited meaning of 'Japyeongjinjeon'.
The Chapter Gyukguk(格局) in the 'Japyeongjinjeon' is the part having some esoteric parts. In addition, as the theories explained in the beginning of the book entirely omits in the Gyukguk and the Gyukguk fortune telling('Ganmyeong(看命)') is brief and straight, they look like ciphers. That is why we took several years to understand the entire contents of 'Gyeokguk Theory'. Accordingly, it is necessary to study under the teacher mastering the Gyeokguk, in order to understand quickly. But it is common even for many teachers not to sufficiently understand it because of the ambiguity in 'Japyeongjinjeon' itself.
As the researcher of this paper, I started the Ming-Li philosophy 20 years ago, with a little knowledge on the Chinese original texts due to my majoring in Buddhism philosophy. In this context, I learned under various teachers, studied on the ancient Ming-Li texts, and studied on Yongsin Method described of ‘Japyeongjinjeon' based on my field experiences from reading fortunes(‘Ganmyeong'), entirely analyzing in-depth on the Inner Gyeok in the Gyeokguk(called as ’eight gyukguk‘).
This is like trying to explain the huge sea of this theory only sitting on the small boat on the sea without viewing on the entire part, but I expect the posterior researchers will further reveal based on this paper of mine.
