소셜미디어 활용의 두 가지 얼굴 : 교육적 도구로서의 확장성과 마비성에 대한 고찰 = Two Faces of Utilizing Social Media : Exploration on Extensive and Paralytic Aspects as Educational Tool

국문 초록 (Abstract)

최근 들어 소셜미디어는 사회, 경제, 문화 전반에 걸쳐 확산되며 거대한 변화와 함께 다양한 담론을 생산해내고 있다. 이에 따라 마이크로 블로그와 소셜네트워킹 플랫폼 등을 지칭하는 소셜미디어가 갖는 교육적 영향력에 대한 연구관심이 높아지고 있다. 본 연구는 소셜미디어의 교육적 활용에 관한 주요 학술 문헌들에 대한 분석을 통하여 교육적 도구로서 소셜미디어가 어떤 영향력을 가져올 것인지에 대하여 탐색하고자 한다. 특히, 본 연구는 미디어를 인간 기능의 확장인 동시에 마비로 바라본 McLuhan의 관점을 채택하여 소셜미디어가 교육분야에 가져올 확장성, 즉 긍정적 영향력과 함께 부정적 영향력, 즉 마비적인 측면을 함께 고찰하고자 한다. 이를 위해 최근 5년 동안 수행된 소셜미디어의 활용에 관한 교육적 연구 문헌들을 수집, 분석하였다. 우선 분석대상으로 선정된 학술논문을 연구목적, 연구방법, 연구대상으로 나누어 연구동향을 파악하였다. 이를 기반으로 소셜미디어의 교육적 활용이 갖는 확장성과 마비성을 1) 네트워킹 활동을 통한 공동체적 자아정체성의 형성과 왜곡, 2) 상호작용성과 다중처리의 특성으로 인한 인지발달의 촉진과 저해, 3) 비선형적 읽기방식과 마이크로 스타일의 쓰기 방식이 갖는 리터러시 역량 강화와 퇴조의 양면성, 4) 소셜미디어 이용에 따른 학업 향상과 저하, 5) 교육적 상호작용성의 확장과 잠재적 위험 요인과 같이 다섯가지 영역으로 나누어 고찰하였다. 마지막으로 연구결과가 주는 교육적 시사점과 후속연구에 대한 제안점이 논의되었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to explore the educational impacts of social media as an educational tool Particularly, this study explores positive and negative aspects of social media from the perspective of Marshall McLuhan, who understands media as extentions of human as well as paralysis of human.
This study used literature analysis method to examine educational impacts of social media. Based on the literature analysis, the study briefly summarizes research trends about educational use of social media in terms of research purpose, method, and context. The main results of this study describe and discuss positive and negative aspects of social media as an educational tool as follows: 1) self-identity formation through social networking activities, 2) impact of social media’s interactivity and multi-tasking on cognitive development, 3) changes in literacy by non-linear reading style and micro writing style, 4) impact of using social media on learning engagement and academic achievement, 5) facilitation and risk factors of educational interactions by using social media. Finally, educational implications and recommendations for future research were discussed.
