한국 선교사 자녀 교육 방안 연구 : 홈스쿨링을 중심으로 = A Study on Educational Options for Korean Missionary Kids

국문 초록 (Abstract)

오늘날 세계 선교는 기독교의 중심이 서구에서 비서구로 옮겨 가면서 그 어느 시대보다 급속한 변화를 경험하고 있다. 이런 변화 속에서 세계를 향한 한국 선교의 성장을 살펴보면, 선교사 자녀 교육의 문제와 아주 밀접한 관계가 있음을 알게 된다. 선교사들이 선교지에서 장기적인 비전과 사역을 온전히 감당하기 위해서는 선교사 자녀 문제가 해결되어야 하기 때문이다.
본 논문은 그동안 한국 선교에서 소홀하게 다루어졌던 현재 우리 세대에게 주어진 선교의 과제 중 하나인 선교사 자녀 교육의 문제에 대해 살펴보고 방안을 제시하는데 초점을 두었다. 또한 그 방안으로는 하나님의 선물인 자녀가 가능하면 부모와 함께 지내는 것이 바람직하다고 생각하여, 선교지에서 자라는 선교사 자녀를 올바르게 양육하고 교육하는데 홈스쿨링을 제안하였다.
첫째, 선교사 자녀들은 타문화권인 선교지에서 자신의 어린 시절과 그 이후까지 지내게 된다. 부모가 선교사이기 때문에 함께 선교지에 갈 수 밖에 없는 선교사 자녀들이 겪게 되는 일들과 특징을 통해 선교사 자녀에 대한 올바른 이해를 돕고, 선교사 자녀 교육이 선교 사역의 중요한 영역이 되어야 할 필요성에 관한 내용을 전개하였다.
둘째, 선교지에서 선교사 자녀가 선택할 수 있는 교육 형태는 나라와 지역에 따라 결정하게 되는데, 선교사 자녀가 선택할 수 있는 학교 교육 기관과 선교지에서 선교사 자녀들이 겪게 되는 문제들을 사랑으로 지지해 주고, 이해해주는 돌봄 교육 사역과 선교지에서 선교사 자녀 교육 현실의 문제점과 대안에 대해 살펴보았다.
셋째, 가정은 하나님께서 인간에게 주신 선물 중에 매우 소중한 것이다. 하나님께서는 가정을 통하여 창조사역을 계속 이어가도록 계획하셨는데, 학교를 보내지 않고, 부모들이 직접 자녀들을 교육하는 제도인 홈스쿨링이 시작된 배경과 역사 그리고 홈스쿨링을 통해 얻을 수 있는 가능성과 한계점에 대해 살펴보았다.
넷째, 홈스쿨링의 성경적 근거를 알아보고, 선교지에서 끊임없이 생기게 되는 선교사 자녀 교육의 문제와 기존에 연구되었던 홈스쿨링 유형과 커리큘럼을 살펴보았다. 더불어 선교사 자녀에게 좋은 신앙을 물려주고, 참된 그리스도인으로 성장하도록 도울 수 있는 선교사 자녀 교육방법으로 홈스쿨링을 제안하였다.
선교사 자녀에게 기독교 교육철학에 근거한 기독교 세계관을 심어줄 수 있는 한국 커리큘럼 개발이 시급하다. 미국에서 나온 것이 아니라 한국에서 나오는 커리큘럼 개발이 빨리 이루어져 선교사 자녀에게 교육을 할 수 있다면, 앞으로 한국 교회와 선교단체의 선교의 지속성과 안정성에 큰 영향을 미칠 수 있을 것이다. 홈스쿨링을 통해 건강한 교육을 받은 선교사 자녀가 자라서 선교 사역에 헌신을 하게 되면 그 효과가 놀랄만한 것이 될 수 있기 때문이다.
본 논문을 통해 미전도 지역 오지를 향한 선교의 마음을 가지고 있는 선교사 가정들이 있다면, 과감하게 자녀 교육의 문제를 결단하고 선교지에 들어가 하나님 나라를 이루어 나가게 되길 기대해 본다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Nowadays, world mission is undergoing a rapid change as the center of Christianity moves from the West to the East. When we look into the growth of Korean missionary works during this era, we find out there is a big issue that is closely related to missionary children's education. This issue should be solved in order for missionaries to do their missionary works in the long term.
This paper is intended to study the missionary kids' education that has been treated lightly in the history of Korean mission. Furthermore, it is intended to suggest homeschooling as one of the effective educational approach for missionaries to nurture and educate their children in the view that children, God's gifts, should be with their parents as far as possible.
Firstly, this paper explains why missionary kids' education is important in missionary works. Missionary kids have to accompany their parents to the mission site and spend most of their childhood in other cultures. This paper is intended to help people understand them better by looking at their characteristics and experiences as missionary kids.
Secondly, in the mission site, possible types of education for missionaries depend on where they stay. Therefore, this paper looks into the possible choices - formal types such as school and informal types such as "caring and education mission" including substitutive parent, dorm parents, and hostel mission. In addition, the paper also examines the practical problems of education that missionary families could face in the mission site and the solution for those problems.
Thirdly, family is a precious gift of God and he planned that we continue the ministry of creation through our family. In this context, this paper studies the historical background of homeschooling which means the education given by parents in a family and its advantages and limits.
Fourthly, this paper looks into the biblical background of homeschooling and its types and curriculum. Moreover, it is intended to suggest homeschooling as a solution for the problem of children's education which missionaries face constantly in the mission site and as an educational method that helps missionary kids grow as real Christians.
There is an urgent need to develop Korean curriculums which instill in missionary kids the Christian world view based on Christian educational philosophy. If we can educate them with the Korean curriculum which is not developed in the U.S.A., it could influence the stability and durability of the mission of Korean churches and Christian mission organizations. It is because if well educated missionary kids through homeschooling do mission works when they grow up, its effect would be amazing. Furthermore, this paper is intended to help missionaries who feel a sense of duty towards an unevangelized area but also have worries regarding their children's education to decide to go to that mission site and build the kingdom of God there.
