성(sexuality)으로 본 여성의 실상 : 80년대 단편소설을 중심으로 = Analysis of Sexuality of Korean Women

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 우리 사회에서 여성이 처한 상황의 핵심적 구조중 하나로 볼 수 있는 성관계(sexuality)에 대한 분석을 통하여 여성의 실상을 밝히려는 것이다. 이 목적을 위하여 여성학적인 관점에서 80년대에 단편소설 3편을 분석하였다.
작품분석에 앞서, 성이 고도로 복잡한 사회적 관계라는 전제아래 여성에 대한 성통제에 관하여 다양한 측면에서 이론적으로 살펴보았다. 그 결과, 현대산업사회에서 여성의 성을 통제하는 기제로서 사랑, 정절, 사물화라는 3가지 유형이 추출되었다.
각각의 유형에 대응하는 작품으로서, 성의 단면을 포착하였다고 생각되며 아울러 문학성이 높다고 평가된 여성작가의 단편소설 3편을 의도적으로 선정하여 분석하였다. 분석결과는 다음과 같다.
서 영은의 <먼 그대>는 사랑이라는 이름 아래 여성이 철저하게 자기부정에 이르게 되는 자발적인 노예화 과정을 드러내주고 있다.
일부일처제의 결혼관계 안에서도 성관계의 이중규범이 여전히 지속되고 있음을 보여주는 오 정희의 <순례자의 노래>에서는 여성에게만 일방적으로 요구되는 정절을 상실할 때 여성의 총체적 삶도 잃게 되는 구조를 확실하게 볼 수 있다.
박 완서의 <유실>에서는 일상적인 성행위에서 여성이 성적대상으로만 이용되는 모습이 확인되었다. 이 작품에서는 성이 자연으로부터의 소외를 극복하는 가능성으로 제시되기는 하였지만 남성이 여성을 지배하는 권력관계라는 사실은 간과되어 있다.
결국 현대의 성은 에로스로 확대되지 못하고 남성지배 - 여성복종의 권력관계로 고착되어 있음이 밝혀졌다. 여성은 성역할 이데올로기에 의하여 사랑과 정절을 미덕으로 내면화시키지만 성관계에서 항상 남성에 의하여 사물화됨으로써 독립적인 자아감각을 유지하지 못하고 남성에 의해 규정되는 존재로 살아간다고 볼 수 있다.
문학작품에 나타난 성을 통한 여성의 실상을 고찰한 결과, 진정한 여성해방은 정치적, 경제적 자유와 더불어 성의 자유를 획득함으로써만 성취될 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The main objective of the present study is to clarify the women's reality by examining sexuality which is one of the most fundamental issues in the women's status of contemporary society. For this objective, three short stories of 1980's were selected and critically analysed from the feminist point of view.
Prior to the analysis, with the assumption that the sexuality is extremely complicated social relations, this study has articulated many aspects of the sexual control upon women in the modern industrialized society. As the result of the articulation, the following three types were drawn as the major sexuality control mechanism. These are Love, Chastity, and Objectification.
Three short stories by women which are regarded to be corresponding to each type and to have high literary quality are intentionally selected and analysed. The result of the analysis is as follows.
"You Are Far Away" by Suh, Youngeun shows how a woman arrives at an absolute self-negation under the name of Love.
"The Song of Pilgrim" by Oh, Junghee demonstrates that even the marital relationship of monogamy holds double standard of chastity and that the loss of chastity on the part of women identifies the Loss of their total life.
"Loss" by Park, Wansuh convinces us that women are manipulated only as sex objects in the usual sexual relationship. Even though this work suggests that sexuality can be a factor of overcoming alienation from nature, it overlooks the fact that sexuality is power relationship between two sexes.
It is proved that sexuality in modern society has ended in power relationships of male deminance/female subordination, without enhancement of eros . Women, though internalizing love and chastity as virtues, sustain themselves as sex objects totally domineered by men, without the sense of self-independence.
The result of this study, the analysis of sexuality in literary work, shows vividly that true women Is liberation can be achieved by having altered concept of sexuality as well as politic-economic freedom.
