      다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In the same way that Jesus had enemies, we too have enemies. Just as the teachers of the law and pharisees hindered and persecuted Jesus` ministry, our enemies today are those that hinder the spreading of the gospel and persecute the lives of Christians. However, Jesus commanded those who have become His children and who are saved by putting their faith in Him to “Love your enemies”. The focus of this thesis is in Luke 6:27-36, but by comparing the passage in Matthew 5:39-48, we will study the definition of “loving your enemies” as seen in the Synoptic gospels. Jesus` teachings on the topic of loving your enemies is not simply an exhortation but a command. This command includes both an obligatory and an applicable aspect. Anyone who has been born as a child of God and is saved through the work of the Holy Spirit is not only capable of obeying but is also required to obey this command. This is due to our ability to resemble God``s mercy. Hence, the fruit of obeying the command to love our enemies is proof that we are children of God. As we see from this perspective, the command to “love your enemies” consists of a relationship in which there is tension between the ability to apply this command in our lives and the requirement to obey this command. Therefore, just as Jesus taught us, we must learn to discipline and train ourselves to “love our enemies” through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. First, we must practice and train ourselves to bless our enemies. Second, we must practically apply this command in our daily lives and learn to become proficient in our efforts to love our enemies. As we continually try to obey His command, we receive our reward from God. However, instead of seeing the reward as a result of our own efforts or actions in loving our enemies, our reward comes from our ability to receive God``s mercy and love through the help of the Spirit because we are children of God. Similarly, just as God``s Spirit was active and working when we became saved, God``s Spirit enables and empowers us to learn how to “love our enemies”. As we are filled with His Spirit and strive to love our enemies, we receive God``s reward. Hence, our reward, is God``s grace-filled gift to us.
