탈북여성의 초국가적 어머니 경험 = Transnational Mother Experience of North Korean Women Defectors

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study focus on the phenomenon of North Korean women defectors`` transnational mother experience. Based on the oral life history interview with 5 North Korean women defectors who put a child in China, this study examined the reason why and how to be a transnational mother, the transnational mother’s role conflict, and the influence on adaptation in South Korea. The results are as follows. First, the identification and repatriation to North Korean women by Chinese police impacted and motivated to become a transnational mother. Second, North Korean transnational mothers do ``the long distance mother role’ while maintaining the child in China. They suffer physical, emotional and psychological pains. Transnational mothering is sustained the activities such as phone calls, sending gifts on birthday, tuition assistance. Third, North Korean women defectors accept the transnational mothering. They are reconstructed their mothering role and identity. They make their own new life like marriage, university study, and so on. The North Korean women``s transnational mothers experience in this study reveals the mothering role conflict and the change of mothering identity.
