신소설에 나타난 신파극적 요소와 시각성 고찰 = A study on the elements of Sin-pa-geuk(新派劇) and the visuality in Sin-so-seol(新小說)

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study purposed to prove the popularity of Sin-so-seol in view of visuality and relation between Sin-so-seol(新小說) and Sin-pa-geuk(新派劇). Although there is a disagreement of opinion about the modern literary property of Sin-so-seol, it has modern cultural property at least. Sin-so-seol is similar to Sin-pa-geuk in case of showing technique and marking method. Since 1912 『Mae-il-sin-bo(每日申報)』 had published two Sin-so-seols serially at once. One is appeared at the front page, the other at the forth page. Especially the forth page's Sin-so-seol began to have illustration. This change means that Sin-so-seol strived for distinction from the front page's 'Sin-so-seol' and that Sin-so-seol wanted to acquire popularity by means of visuality. As time goes by, the public preferred Sin-pa-geuk to Sin-so-seol owing to the vividity and spectacles of drama. Thus Sin-so-seol had been adapted for the stage since 1912. The essence of modern culture is visuality. In 1910s Sin-so-seol strived to have visuality in other to survive in the struggle for existence of many visual genre. It was also the way to acquire popularity.
