민담의 서사 구조적 원형과 그 의의 = The Folk tales narrative structural original form and its meaning

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper focus on explaining the Korean Folk tale narrative structural original form and its meaning. Korean folk tales narrative structural origin could be greatly seen as N form structure and M form structure. This is to set the happiness(+happiness) and unhappiness(-happiness) which is given to the protagonist as a mathematical figure and putting it as Y-axis, the narrative stages of the motifs development of the story as X-axis which is named after making a curve that comes and goes + and - values repeatedly like a trigonometric function graph.
This kinds of folk tales narrative structure could be considered as the origin of the folk tales narrative structure. The N form structure is the structural origin of the tale that the protagonist starts with some kind of lacking situation but finally gains happiness after overcoming hardships. The M form structure is the structural origin of the tale that has a tragic ending because the protagonist got punished or continually being misfortuned for being avaricious.
Comparatively simply stories comes with less of N, M curves and the stories which have intricate narrative development will come with more N, M curves. In other words, the stories narrative simpleness or the complexity could be known by the numbers of the serial links of N form and M form curves.
This kind of narrative structural origin of a folk tale takes a decisive role on how strong the handing down of the tale is. This takes a role as a framework for the story tellers to remember that folk tale in their unconsciousness. Moreover the
motif which appears at the highest and the lowest peak of the curve is the main factor that draw interest of the tale. Further more it is able to be an reference for each versions which have been numerously changed by the story tellers are not separate folk tales but one.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 한국 민담의 서사 구조의 원형과 그것이 갖는 의의를 밝히는 것에 주안점을 두었다. 한국 민담의 주인공에게 주어지는 행(+행)·불행(-행)을 수학적 값으로 정하여 Y축으로 놓고, 이야기의 화소 전개의 서사적 과정을 X축으로 놓았을 때 마치 삼각함수의 그래프와 같이 +와 -값을 일정하게 반복하며 오가는 곡선이 생성된다. 이러한 곡선의 모양은 N형이 연쇄되는 경우도 있고 M형이 연쇄되는 경우도 있다. 본 논문에서는 전자를 N형 구조, 후자를 M형 구조로 명명하고, 이를 민담의 서사 구조로 보았다. N형 구조는 무언가 결핍된 상황에서 시작한 주인공이 시련을 이겨내고 행운을 찾는다는 결말을 가진 민담의 구조적 원형이다. M형 구조는 주인공이 욕심을 가져서 응징되거나, 불운의 연속으로 비극적 결말을 지니는 민담의 구조적 원형이다.
이러한 N, M의 굴곡이 적은 횟수로 등장하는 이야기일수록 단순한 서사 구조를 지닌 민담이며, 복잡한 서사 전개로 이루어진 이야기들은 N, M의 굴곡의 횟수가 많다. 즉, N형과 M형의 연쇄된 수가 많고 적음에 따라 이야기의 서사적 단순성이나 복잡성을 알 수 있다.
이러한 민담의 서사 구조적 원형은 민담의 전승력에 결정적인 역할을 한다. 이는 담지자들의 무의식 속에서 그 민담을 기억하게 하는 골격의 역할을 한다고 할 수 있다. 또한 굴곡의 정점과 저점에서 나타나는 화소의 등장은 민담의 흥미성을 이끌어내는 주된 요소라 할 수 있다. 또한 이는 담지자들이 숱하게 변이된 각편들을 별개의 민담이 아니라 하나의 민담으로 간주할 수 있도록 하는 준거가 된다고 할 수 있다.
