The purpose of this study is to suggest some implications concerning educational objectives, contents, and teaching methods from Paul Hirst`s social practices view of education for the improvement of the ``career and jobs`` subject curriculum. In order to achieve the purpose Hirst`s concept of social practices and his ideas on the educational objectives, contents, and teaching methods were presented and compared. Hirst`s ideas on the curriculum components and the curriculum components of the ``career and jobs`` subject curriculum of the Korean secondary schools were compared. Some implications drawn from Hirst`s ideas for the improvement of the ``career and jobs`` subject curriculum were discussed. On the basis of the above discussion some suggestions for the improvement of the ``career and jobs`` curriculum were recommended as follows: First, practical experience of the various job activities should be established as an important objective of the subject curriculum. Second, experience of the typical job activities from the primary job areas should be included as a curriculum content. Third, critical reflections on the job experience should be emphasized as a teaching method of the ``career and jobs`` subject in the secondary school.
