원불교 종교연합운동 1세기 조명과 향후 과제

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Nowadays, in the course of globalization, modern societies have entered into multi-cultural, multi-racial, and multi-religious societies. In the process of rapid social communication, the present world is experiencing conflict not only because of the clash of civilizations but also because of cultural and religious difference. Dialogue and cooperation among religions in multireligious societies is the foundation for a harmonious development of human civilization. The first public dialogue and cooperation among the religions began with the historical meeting of the Worlds Parliament of Religions in Chicago, 1893. Although the ‘Parliament of Worlds Religions in 1893 could not be held again until its centennial anniversary both in Bangalow of India and in Chicago of U.S.A. in 1993. The General Conference of the Parliament of Worlds Religions, which has been held regularly every four to five years since 1993, has been held in Toronto, Canada to mark its 7th General Assembly in 2018. In Won-Buddhism, Master Taesan initiated the movement of the United Religions based upon the Irwon Philosophy of the Founding Master Sotaesan and the Threefold Ethics of Master Cheongsan. Masters of Won-Buddhism has presented a deplorable religious belief in a multicultural society and has demonstrated through the movement of the United Religions how a communistic religious idea should be practiced at home and in the international community. In the second century of Won-Buddhism, a new popular realization of the spirit of UR is required. It should be worked to clarify the UR spirit and the practical movement that brings expertise and public appeal together. In this essay, I have reviewed the contents and achievements of its activities to participate in the dialogue among the international religious communities. Then, I have discussed how to realize the spirit of the UR and its movement by establishing the philosophical bases on the religious dialogue and presented how to activate grassroots movement in local communities and human resources development for the religious cooperation movement in the international communities.
