대중교통 사건으로서의 다방 인질극의 탄생 = The Birth of Coffee Shop Hostage Situation as an Event of Mass Communication

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 다방이라는 도시의 특정한 장소성에 관한 연구다. 구체적으로, 역사가, 한국 현대사가, 계급과 빈곤의 사회적 모순이 사건적으로 발현하는 공간으로서의 다방을 소설적으로 다룬다. 다방에서는 여러 일들이 벌이진다. 그중에서도 연구자가 주목하는 것은 인질사건이다. 다방을 일시 점거한 범인들이 펼치는 잔혹하고 폭력적인 인질극이다. 연구자는 다방인질극을 미디어 현상, 커뮤니케이션 현실로 간주한다. 뉴스를 통해 충격적으로 중계되고 대중 독자에 의해 의미 있게 독해되는 인질극의 역사가 다방의 장소성은 물론이고, 한국사회의 제 모순에 대해 많은 것을 말해준다는 게 연구의 가설이다. 다방 인질극은 한국 현대사의 또 다른 표면체, 표현물이 된다. 연구자는 다방인질극을 단독적 사건으로 보지 않는다. 시대를 살아간 프롤레타리아트도시대중 주체들의 가난한 삶과 연결시킨다. 사회·역사적 문맥을 간파할 징후이자 효과로서 독해한다. 이 글에서 연구자는 우선 인질이 지닌 사회적 의미, 극적 면모, 공간적 특성에 주목한다. 그리고 다방에 관한 기존 연구들을 돌아본 후, 인질공간으로서의 다방이 구성되고 다방에서의 인질사건이 전개되는 1960년대 말과 1970년대 초의 역사를 살펴볼 것이다. 표현과 표면의 개념을 중시하며 다방인질극을 대중교통 현상으로 받아들이는 본 문화연구는 그람시가 말한 일종의 국면분석에 해당한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This article deals with a peculiar placeness of coffee shop in the city. It will be a novel about coffee shop, wherein history, Korean modern history and, more specifically, the socio-economic problems of city poors continue to appear. Lots of things happen in coffee shop. Among them, the author focus on hostage situation, a violent condition initiated by the criminals who temporarily occupy the place. Coffee shop hostage situation is here seen as a sort of media phenomenon, communication actuality. It is the author’s main assumption that the various hostage situations, being reported and televised as a significant news and read by shocked audiences, tells a lot about contradictions of the Korean society, in addition to the very spatiality of coffee shops. In short, coffee shop hostage situations become another case of appearance, example of expression of contemporary Korean history. In this article, the author would not treat the issue of coffee shop hostage as an isolated accident He will rather connect it with the culture of proletariat masses who have had to live the times. In this way, he will interpret the hostage as a symptom as well effect to read out the historical contextuality. First, the author will observe the social meanings, dramatic features and spatial characters of the hostage situation. After reviewing the studies on coffee shops, then, he will focus on the case of hostage happened in the 1960s and early 70s. Using the notions of appearance and expression, approaching the coffee shop hostage situation as a sort of mass communication, it becomes a conjunctural cultural study suggested and performed by Gramci.
