    The survey method, long employed in the social sciences as a means of gathering and assessment, is being increasingly acknowledged as one of great research methods, and is more applied for various kinds of researches concerning the activation of libraries than before. Accordingly, the purposes for this paper are to investigate to what extent college and university library use the survey method, and their recognitions as to how librarians think of the survey method.
    For research methodology, they research conducted a questionnaire survey to 19 college and university libraries and 133 librarians from August 26 to September 14, 1996.
    According to the results of this paper, librarians were to show positive thoughts on the use of library survey method in activating the functions of library. Finally the implications of the present results were also discussed for library survey method.
