지방 중·소도시 지역아동센터 아동들의 어휘 및 읽기 발달 현황 = Vocabulary and Reading Development Status of Children at Community Children Centers in Small and Medium-Sized Local City

국문 초록 (Abstract)

연구목적: 본 연구에서는 지방 중·소도시의 지역아동센터를 이용하고 있는 아동들을 대상으로 수용 및 표현 어휘력과 읽기 성취도를 검사하여 이들의 어휘 및 읽기 발달 현황을 알아보고자 하였다. 연구방법: 지방 중·소도시인 A시에 위치한 지역아동센터 4곳을 이용하는 82명의 아동들을 대상으로 어휘력과 읽기 성취도 검사를 실시하였다. 검사 결과를 토대로 수용 및 표현 어휘력과 읽기 성취도 현황을 분석하였고, 읽기장애로 선별된 아동들의 읽기장애 유형을 분석하였으며, 어휘 지체와 읽기장애를 중복으로 보이는 아동들의 분포를 확인하였다. 연구결과: 첫째, 표현 어휘에서는 전체 아동의 41.4% 아동들이, 수용 어휘에서는 52.4% 아동들이 지체를 보였다. 둘째, 읽기 성취도 검사 결과 전체 아동들 중 55.9%의 아동들이 유의미하게 낮은 성취를 보였다. 셋째, 읽기장애를 보이는 아동들 중에 저학년은 단어인지에 어려움을 보이는 아동들이 80%인 반면, 고학년 아동들은 단어인지에 어려움을 보이는 아동 55.6%였고 상대적으로 읽기유차성에 어려움을 보이는 아동들이 38.9%로 높게 나타났다. 넷째, 어휘 지체 또는 읽기장애를 보이는 아동들 중 66.7%의 아동들은 어휘 지체와 읽기장애를 중복으로 보였다. 결론: 지역아동센터 아동들 중 상당수의 아동들이 어휘 지체와 읽기장애를 보이고 있기 때문에 지역아동센터를 이용하는 아동들을 대상으로 언어 및 읽기에 대한 지원이 이루어져야 할 것이며, 이를 위해 행정적·재정적 지원이 필요함을 제안하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Purpose: This study aimed to examine the receptive and expressive vocabulary and reading achievement of children attending community children's centers in small and medium-sized cities to identify the current status of vocabulary and reading development of children attending community children's centers. Method: Vocabulary and reading achievement tests were conducted on 82 children attending four community children's centers in A City, a medium-sized city. Based on the test results, receptive and expressive vocabulary and reading achievement status were analyzed, the types of reading disorders of children identified as reading disabled were analyzed, and the distribution of children with overlapping vocabulary delay and reading disorders was investigated. Results: First, 41.4% of all children showed a delay in expressive vocabulary, and 52.4% showed a delay in receptive vocabulary. Second, 55.9% of all children showed significantly low achievement in the reading achievement test. Third, among the children with reading disability, 80% of the lower grades had difficulty in word recognition. On the other hand, 55.6% of the upper grades had difficulty in word recognition, and 38.9% of the children showed difficulty in reading fluency. Fourth, among the children with vocabulary delay or reading disability, 66.7% of the children showed overlapping vocabulary delay and reading disability. Conclusion: Because a high rate of children in community children's centers shows vocabulary delay and reading difficulties, it was suggested that language and reading support should be provided to children using community children's centers, and administrative and financial support is needed for this.
