마가복음 4:21-22의 등불 비유 = Lamp Parable in Mark 4:21-22

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

One does not light a lamp to hide under a basket but to reveal on a stand (Mark 4:21-22). Likewise Jesus’ healing ministry and Messianic identity were not intended to be permanently hidden.
They were temporarily hidden to be finally manifested. Similarly Jesus did not use parables to hide a secret but to disclose it. Parables were chosen to teach people according to their level of understanding (Mark 4:33).
In the sandwich structure of Mark 4:21-22(A), 23(B), 24-25(A’), v.25’s ‘he who does not have’ seems to have been compared to the case of hiding a lamp under a basket of v.21. It may also refer to the case of a seed which does not produce fruits by having no root (v.17). Mark 4:40 (“Do you not have faith?”) indicates that v.25’s what one does not have is faith. Accordingly those who do not bear fruits are those who have no faith. In such a literary context, the lamp parable further seems to indicate that faith aims to bear fruits just as a lamp purposes to be put on a stand.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

등불을 켜는 목적은 침상 아래 두어 숨기는 것이 아니라 등경 위에두어 드러나게 함이다(막 4:21-22). 이것은 예수의 치유 사역과 메시아 정체가 숨겨지도록 의도된 듯하지만 마침내 드러나게 되는 것과유사하다. 이처럼 예수의 비유도 숨기고자 하는 듯하지만 궁극적으로 드러내기 위하여 주어진 것이다. 비유는 청중이 깨닫을 수 있는수준에 맞추어 선택된 수단이다(막 4:33).
마가복음 4:21-25에서 21-22절과 24-25절이 샌드위치 평행 구조를이루는 것을 고려할 때, 25절의 ‘없는 자’는 21절에서 등불을 말이나침대 아래 두는 경우와 연관될 수 있다. ‘없는 자’는 또한 17절이언급하는 흙, 뿌리가 없어 열매를 맺지 않는 경우를 가리킬 수 있다.
그런데 예수의 비유에 관한 본문에 이어지는 풍랑 기사에서 제자들의 믿음 없음이 지적되는 맥락(4:40)은 25절의 ‘없는 자’가 믿음 없는자를 가리킬 가능성을 연다. 따라서 24-25절과 평행된 등불 비유에서등불이 믿음을 가리킬 수 있다. 그리하여 등불 비유는 등불을 켜는목적이 등경 위에 두어 비추는 것이듯이 믿음의 목적은 열매를 맺기위함임을 암시한다.
