The US has sought to transfer the main mission of the USFK from away a deterrent of the North Korea's attack to the South Korea toward a rapid response forces to manage and resolve a various forms of transnational conflicts and complex contingencies including terrorism.
In responding to the expanding flexibility of the USFK, the study advises the Ssouth Korean government to choose a "interdependent engagement strategy" to the US, through which it will be able to have a good chance to improve the unequal relationship between the ROK and the US as well as to increase its self-reliant defense capabilities.
