東아시아의 金融統合에 관한 硏究-EU 通貨統合과의 比較를 중심으로- = A Study on the Financial Integration in East Asia

The east Asian currency-financial crisis in 1997 brought home to the regional economies an acute need for the more effective financial and monetary cooperation in East Asia.
The Chiang Mai Initiative, a currency swap arrangement between East Asia central banks, was one of the first concrete outcomes of the ongoing discussion toward regional monetary and financial cooperation. Apparently, the successful launch of the single European currency in 1999 was an encouraging factor for the East Asian countries to engage in s serious international discussion on the necessity of appropriate financial anf monetary cooperation including the formation of an East Asian monetary bloc.
The lauch of euro provided a good example that national currencies can be fused into a single regional currency through compromising domestic policies.
This thesis reviews previous policy suggestions and efforts regarding monetary and financial cooperation in East Asia that has been going on since 1997 East Asian currency-financial crisis. The thesis examines the status of East Asian regional economy in terms of exchange rate system and the background of recent monetary cooperation in the region.
