The goals of this study are to (1) define the relation between culture and play and (2) investigate whether the play pattern, parent-child interaction, peer interaction and materials are culture dependent. This study was conducted from a comparative-cultural perspective by reviewing the literatures on culture and play. Findings indicate that culture and play acre interactive. Play is a cause as well as a consequence of culture and furthermore creates and modifies culture. Parent-child interaction, peer interaction and materials, on the other hand, are culture dependent, and culture influence the theme, content and pattern of play. These findings suggest that play should be studied in cultural context.
