‘住居址’에서 ‘居住者’로- 韓國 先史時代 家口考古學을 위한 提言 = From ‘Dwellings’ to ‘Residents’ A Proposition for Household Archaeology in Korean Prehistory

It seems, in general, not necessary to exaggerate the importance of the roleof dwelling data in archaeological research. In Korean archaeology, dwellingdata has been used to establish chronological schemes, and to identify spatialvariation and cultural traditions. However, recently it has become unlikely forresearch of this kind to generate new meaningful arguments. Some attemptsnewly introduced into Korean prehistoric dwelling studies do not seem to havehad progressive momentum due to the lack of proper methodology or researchthemes.
This paper, in order to breach the current problems faced by Koreanprehistoric dwelling studies, focuses on household archaeology, which hasgrown dramatically in Western archaeology. A brief review of its developmentand research topics makes it clear that although household archaeology isnot a paradigm with unique theoretical constructs, it is able to produce amyriad of research topics by looking at household-level patterns. I am not,of course, trying to suggest that a mere adoption of approaches originatingfrom Western archaeology can contribute to the progression of approaches ina Korean context. Nevertheless, it can be regarded as a plausible alternativeway to address the real-world problems faced by Korean archaeology which isdesperate to find new and productive research themes.
