Hair style is characterized by a cyclic trend involving creation, adoption, declination and shift, and also refers to a way to express certain aspects of contemporary politics, economy, society and culture.
Historically, punk reflected a worldwide economic crisis in 1970's, expressed contemporary unstable psychology, and influenced contemporary behaviors and fashions. Furthermore, such nature of punk was reflected and expressed on hair style as well. The form of punk hair style is characterized by short-cut or fully shaved sides of hair. These characteristics reflect incomplete economy or society and also imply a nature of challenge or destruction.
Now, punk style appears as a new version in mass communication and many of young men’s hair styles as if it reflected recent political, economical and cultural confusions of Korean society.
After 2000, neo-punk reflects the basic nature of punk style, but is differentiated from the latter in a sense that the former focuses less on shape and exaggeration than the latter, but is just used as a means of personality expression.
