    The literature conveys the importance of aligning purchasing strategy with business strategy for achieving competitive success. However, some purchases will have a greater impact on the strategic priorities of the business, and suppliers cannot be expected to achieve optimal performance in everything they do, especially at day one. Since a qualified supplier can provide a manufacturing firm with competitive advantage, the supplier selection has become an important activity for achieving its business strategy. The purpose of this study is to provide a guideline for manufacturer on supplier`s selection. This paper presents the application of the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to select the best supplier of each component of an electric traction elevator in the context of their importance to the business strategy of the manufacturer. This is the second step in the formulation of the manufacturer`s purchasing strategy after the component prioritisation for strategic purchasing. A case study of a South Korean elevator manufacturer is used to illustrate the proposed model.
