70년대 리얼리즘 논쟁에서 ‘진실한 리얼리즘’의 문제 : (김현과 최인훈의 논의를 중심으로) = The Problem of ‘True Realism’ in the Realism Debate of the 70s - Centering on the debate between Kim Hyun and Choi In-hoon

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 최인훈과 김현의 문학론 등에서 발견되는 논리적 유사성에 관한 최근의 연구 성과에 근거하여 이들의 ‘리얼리즘’ 논의를 상호 참조에 초점을 두어 분석한다. 70년도의 리얼리즘 논쟁에서 김현은 서구의 로브그리예 등을 참조하여 기존의 리얼리즘을 비판한다. 이때 김현의 주된 논거 중 하나는 최인훈의 소설 속 담론이다. 최인훈과 김현의 논리는 특히 ‘리얼리즘’에 관한 부분에서 상당히 겹친다. 최인훈과 김현은 리얼리즘을 재전유하고 ‘진실한 리얼리즘’을 내세우지만 새로운 문예 사조를 지향하지는 않는다. 본 연구는 기존 연구가 크게 주목하지 않았던 이러한 사실에 대해 문제 제기하고 논증하면서 다음의 두 가지 사실을 밝히고자 했다. 첫째는 최인훈과 김현의 리얼리즘론의 실상은 표현주의에 가깝다는 점이다. 그러나 그들은 리얼리즘을 다시 쓰는 전략을 취했다. 둘째, 이들의 리얼리즘에 관한 입장은 근대성에 관한 문제의식을 내포하며, 당대 한국의 근대성의 문제는 그것의 역사적 연속성이나 자생의 문제와 결부되어 있다는 점이다. 이 부분에서 리얼리즘 다시쓰기의 의도를 유추해 낼 수 있다. 김현의 리얼리즘론을 최인훈이라는 참조점을 경유해서 해석할 때 리얼리즘 양식의 실질과 우리 현실을 일치시키려는 합리성 추구의 노력과 근대와 근대문학의 계보와 연속성을 재인식하려는 시도를 읽어낼 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Based on recent research on the logical similarities found in the literary theories of Choi In-hoon and Kim Hyun, this study analyzes their debates on ‘realism’ with a focus on cross-references. In the realism debate of the 1970s, Kim criticizes conventional realism by referring to Alain Robbe-Grillet and others in the West. One of Kim's main arguments is the discourse in Choi In-hoon's novel. Choi In-hoon's and Kim Hyun's logic overlaps considerably, especially when it comes to ‘realism’. Choi In-hoon and Kim Hyun reappropriate realism and advocate ‘true realism’, but they do not aim for a new literary school of thought. This study attempts to problematize the above facts, which have been largely ignored by existing research, and to reveal the following two facts through argumentation: first, Choi In-hoon and Kim Hyun's realism is actually expressionism, but they have adopted a strategy of rewriting realism; second, their stance on realism implies a questioning of modernity, and the problem of modernity in contemporary Korea is tied to the problem of its historical continuity or self-generation. This is where we can infer the intention of rewriting realism. When interpreting Kim's theory of realism through the reference point of Choi In-hoon, we can read the pursuit of rationality to match the substance of the realist style with our reality, and the attempt to recognize the genealogy and continuity of modernity and modern literature anew.
